Design Notes

Alan Craig and I conceived of this as a simple, rootsy recording - we agreed, no more than 8 tracks on each track. But, we just know so many great musicians, and it's just so much fun hanging out with them at George and Barry's place (which I, in curmudgeon fashion, still insist on calling "Panda"), that we added a texture or two (and violated the 8-track limit on one cut, Trouble Sits Down).

I think this one has the most different instrumentation of any of my discs - almost every tune has a different lineup. My trusty Guild acoustic was showing its age (warped neck), and failed in its duty to intonate properly. So, I used a couple of Barry's wonderful collection of Taylors to record the acoustic tracks. Of course, I also employed my Alhambra Flamenco guitar, my Ibanez baritone acoustic (on Where the Wild Things Were), my "hub cap," George's Danelectro baritone (on Oat Opera), and my Gator lap steel (made for me by my friend Dave Johnson, played on Trouble Sits Down).
